Live Steam!
This is the 1923 Heisler geared locomotive that is on display at the Southeastern Railway Museum in Duluth, GA.
One of our class projects is to build a 1/8 scale replica of this engine.
We started with the wheels.
After many trips to the museum for photos and measurements Gary Heidt came up with this.
We think that Gary did a splendid job in recreating these wheels in miniature.
The real wheels are made of cast iron and are painted and rusty .
Ours are shiny and, being made from 303 Stainless Steel, will remain so.
Consequently, some folks have criticized our wheels as being unrealistic.
Those folks need to lighten up.
We're just doing this to have fun.
